I find it a bit like Tennis these days, only interested in the majors and the first one is this week. The Masters. Love this tournament.
BBC have struck gold with Tiger making this his comeback tournament. Problem they and American TV has is that coverage is restricted on the first two days. Seems bizarre in this day and age but they are trying to ensure they at least get some coverage of Tiger pending on his tee time. You wouldn't out it past him winning but somehow I cant see it.
Not sure yet who to have a few bob on.

Masters is in HD this year. I haven't looked at the TV guide yet but I hope it means they're broadcasting longer hours, even if it means HD get some coverage that BBC 1/2 miss out on.

Wouldn't be surprised if Woods wins. Small E/W bet on Dustin Johnson for me.

Dunno why, but think it might just be time for one of the perennial European underachievers to cash in.

Haven't read they have been allowed longer hours as yet.

Read that the BBC miay be given an extra 15 mins of coverage of Tiger teeing off and they may extend the BBC1 News at 1800 to cover it.

Great start for the Brits. Had a small bet for Westwood to win at 18/1 at start. You just wonder though if Tiger is going to do it. He's very well placed.

It would be a good story if Westwood could win his first major after all this time and after a few near misses on the same weekend that Tony McCoy won the Grand National at his fifteenth attempt having won everything else worth winning in his sport. However, I fancy Phil Mickelson to win this to re-establish himself as number 2 after his sabbatical from the sport last year.

That was some round by Rory McIlroy yesterday to win his first tournament on the US PGA tour. Think he shot a round of 62 in the last round. Obviously taking a break like he said he was going to do did him some good.

Always look forward to this week and The Open. Had numerous small bets with a larger one on Mclroy to win.
Really need to have some wind there otherwise without it the course is all too easy for these guys.

Have done Mclroy to win and each way on Rose, Poulter, Karlsson, Chris Wood and also got 80-1 on Darren Clarke before he qualified.

Good start on that bet with McIlroy in the clubhouse lead on -9 after his first round. For all its history, St Andrews must be the most benign out of all the Open's championship courses. Everywhere else and the winner of the tournament will be lucky to be -9 after 72 holes, let alone 18.

St Andrews needs wind to make it a tough course for these guys.

Next week at Gleneagles is the last week to get points for qualification.

Looks like Westwood, McIlroy, McDowell, Kaymer, Poulter and Fisher are there. Currently the last 3 non wildcard picks are Francesco Molinari, Peter Hansson and Miguel Jiminez.

Simon Dyson, Ross McGowan and Alvaro Quiros can all still qualify at Jiminez's expense, as he isn't playing at next week.

This'll leave 3 wild cards and only 3 of Harrington, Casey, Donald, Rose or Edoardo Molinari, plus possibly Jiminez all requiring wild cards to get in. The likes of Stenson and Clarke will likely be considered too.

Could be interesting for Montgomerie.

Post Re: The Golf Thread 2010
Monty named his wild cards yesterday and the main news was that he left out Paul Casey but went for Padraig Harrington's experience instead. I could understand the logic of picking the other Molinari brother, as it is likely you can pair them together in the foursomes or fourballs together and they could be an effective partnership. I do think Harrington is lucky to be included though. He has done very little in the past year or so and he choked big time in the last Ryder Cup. He seriously has to deliver as the senior player this time with all of the other rookies in the team, and with Lee Westwood struggling for fitness.

I think they have got to look at the qualification points system for this. It seems to me as though they are penalising players who are prioritising playing on the US tour over playing in Europe, as Casey has done, and yet that move has done much to advance him as a player. It seems odd that a player who is ranked in the world's top 10 cannot be an automatic qualifier when some journeyman like Peter Hanson can get in simply because he is playing on the European tour every week.

Molinari was brilliant in winning yesterday so had to be picked. Casey is very unlucky to be 9th in the world and still miss out. Paddy looks a bit lucky to me.

I think Casey should have gone instead of Harrington as his form isn't too bad and his matchplay record has to be up there with the best.
